About Marmoris

Marmoris was established to increase deep-sea research and local ownership of ocean exploration throughout the Caribbean. We spearhead a variety of ocean exploration initiatives in The Bahamas utilizing a range of cutting-edge technologies. In addition, we collaborate with scientists and governments across the region to enhance their data collection capabilities and build the necessary capacity to study the traditionally inaccessible depths of their ocean ecosystem.

What We Do

Marmoris’ suite of commercially sourced deep-sea imaging and sensor systems enable data collection at depths of up to 3,000 meters. We focus on comprehensive surveys of ocean ecosystems, from surface to seafloor, gathering detailed data on marine habitats and biodiversity used to monitor changes over time. By providing policymakers across the region with these insights, we contribute to informed decision-making for ocean conservation.

Denley Delaney

Marmoris was founded in 2025 by Denley Delaney, who developed her passion for the ocean while growing up in The Bahamas. Before founding the organization, Denley led the National Geographic Society’s portfolio of technologies used for innovative ocean exploration as a Senior Manager within the Exploration Technology Lab. While supporting deep ocean exploration on a global scale she recognized the vast data gaps that remain across the Caribbean, and the need for greater locally led science and increased access to deep-sea technologies among small island developing states. Denley now brings her years of experience launching multiple ocean technology programs and managing deep sea expeditions around the world to her home country, The Bahamas, and the broader Caribbean region. Denley received her Bachelors in marine science and Masters in environmental communication from Stanford University.

Why This Matters

Earth Globe Icon

Research and Exploration

Only 0.001% of the ocean has been visually explored. Critical gaps remain in our understanding of the ocean and the vital role it plays to people and planet. Greater ocean exploration is needed to fill these data gaps, and improve our ability to preserve and protect critical marine ecosystems in the face of human impacts, such as oil drilling and deep sea mining.

Capacity across the Caribbean

Limited access to ocean technologies, especially in small island developing states, hinders data collection from marine ecosystems in the Caribbean. Additionally, local capacity for research beyond diver depth has traditionally been limited. Increased regional ocean exploration capacity is needed to expand data availability and improve local ownership of ocean science.
